How to Modify a Spring Airsoft Sniper Rifle

Airsoft rifles are replica weapons that fire a small paintball or solid plastic projectile at a target. Spring operated airsoft rifles are single fire versions that can fire a projectile over 200 feet at speeds of up to 450 FPS (feet per second). For most airsoft users this is more than enough power, but for the airsoft enthusiast, an unmodified rifle is only half complete. To get the most out of a spring operated airsoft sniper rifle you must make a few careful modifications to the stock model, increasing both the power and accuracy of the completed weapon.

  • Teflon tape
  • Cylinder chamber

Instructions

    • 1

Upgrade your sniper rifle barrel. The smaller the bore of the barrel the better the accuracy of the projectiles. Tighter bore barrels will keep the projectiles from moving around inside the barrel which may cause a loss in speed and accuracy. Remove the old inner barrel from the outer barrel of your rifle.

    • 2

Wrap the muzzle end of your new barrel with a layer of Teflon tape and insert the new inner barrel into the outer barrel, making sure there is enough tape on the end to provide for a snug fit. The Teflon tape will help to stabilize the muzzle end in the outer barrel, increasing accuracy as well.

    • 3

Replace the stock cylinder and cylinder head in the weapon located behind the barrel, with a larger cylinder that holds more air. The greater capacity of the cylinder means more compressed air can be used to fire the projectile. The new cylinder head will better match the cylinder and provide an improved seal on the chamber leading to the barrel.

    • 4

Replace the spring in your sniper rifle with a stronger one. With a stronger spring the piston that fires the projectile will gain in velocity, pushing more force through the weapon and increasing both the accuracy and range of the projectile. When replacing the spring, replace the spring guide which stops the spring from moving into the gear case of the weapon as well as preventing damage to the gear case.

    • 5

Replace the gear box in the sniper rifle with metal gears which are less likely to break due to the new powerful spring. When replacing the gears install new brushings to secure the gears as well. The gears use the brushings to rotate, and new metal brushings will give your rifle smooth movement in the gearbox, increasing the rate of fire.

    • 6

Install a hop up replacement kit including a new hop up rubber which will add backspin to your projectile which increases the range.

    • 7

Replace the bolt handle of your rifle with a larger one for easier cocking of the weapon to speed up your rate of fire.

    • 8

Replace the trigger mechanism with one that requires a light pull for firing. The trigger mechanism will come with a new spring guide stopper, and piston and trigger sears which will keep the new spring from damaging your weapon.

    • 9

Install a high-quality 4x scope to the rifle, one which can be zeroed in easily to increase the accuracy of your shooting.

    • 10

Clean the weapon before firing, and use a high-quality, heavier 0.28g ammunition for accuracy.
