How to Design a Playhouse for Children

Designing a child's playhouse can be exciting for adults and children. Work together with the child to design the playhouse. Let the child help select the colors and configuration of the playhouse. Consider the size of the playhouse. Make sure two or three children can play in it together. Also make sure it is large enough that an adult can get inside if needed.

  Collect a variety of images of playhouses you like. Cut out the parts of the playhouses you like and glue together to make a picture of your ideal playhouse.

  Determine the height of the playhouse and the height of the door based on the size of children who will be using the playhouse.

  Use the collage of playhouses to draw your design. Write the measurements next to the drawing.

  Pay attention to the placement of windows in the playhouse. They should be accessible to the children so they can open the windows and see out.

  Gather paint samples, wallpaper samples and carpet tile samples for the playhouse. Use the square footage of the playhouse design to determine how many materials you will need.

  Select roofing for the playhouse that will keep the interior dry.

  Bring your plans to an experienced carpenter to construct your design for you.
