How to Make a Big Sling Shot

Slingshots are fun to play with as well as a useful hunting tool. Small ones can be made with rubber bands and a Y-shaped stick. Bigger ones can be made that are hand held or mounted to trees or other poles. In this article, we will cover how to make the very largest kind, the kind that will require supports such as trees or poles.

Things You'll Need

  • Stretchy tubing or bicycle inner tubes
  • Leather, sturdy fabric or other material for the projectile pouch
  • Rope or heavy string
  • Projectile (be safe when choosing the material for this, unless it is your intent to hunt)
  • Utility knife
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Select two thick trees or sturdy posts for your slingshot to be tied to.

    • 2

Cut two lengths of stretchy tubing to whatever length you desire for the sides of the sling shot. The length of the material here determines how far back you will be able to pull your sling shot.

    • 3

Tie a loop in all four ends of the two pieces of stretchy material.

    • 4

Use the rope to tie one end of each of the pieces of the stretchy material to both trees or supports at a height that will be even with the hands of the person stretching back the sling shot.

    • 5

Use the rope to attach the fabric pouch to the other ends of the stretch material. Cut holes in the fabric in order to loop the rope through.

    • 6

Test the slingshot using a soft item such as a small stuffed animal before using any other projectile. Adjust the height of the stretchy material on the trees in order to correct your trajectory. Placing the tubing higher on the tree will cause the projectile to go higher, and placing the tubing lower will send the projectile on a lower trajectory.
