How to Gift-wrap a Ball

When you wrap a gift, you want the recipient to be surprised rather than being able to figure out what it is before it is even opened. Balls have a distinctive shape, so you can't just cover them with wrapping paper. By properly wrapping a ball, you can maintain the element of surprise.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a box of an appropriate size. It's best to use a box that is only slightly larger than the ball, but you can use one that is quite a bit larger if necessary. In fact, this will make the recipient even less likely to guess what's inside. Buy a box or recycle one that you have around the house.

    • 2

Put the ball into the box, and stuff the empty space around it with tissue paper, packing peanuts or another type of padding. You can even use wadded newspaper. The objective is to hold the ball steady so it doesn't roll around in the box. If it can move freely inside, the recipient might guess what's inside.

    • 3

Close the box and tape it securely. Use enough tape to present a minor challenge to the recipient. This will prolong the period of surprise before she finally sees that the gift is a ball.

    • 4

Cut a sheet of wrapping paper in an appropriate size to cover the box that you're using to hold the ball. Fold the paper around the box and tape it into place.

    • 5

Add a tag, bow or other decorations to the box. This step can be as simple or elaborate as you choose.
