How to Build a Playhouse Floor

Most boys and girls love to have a playhouse to play in, and most dads might get a kick out of building a playhouse for their kids. If you're one of those dads, you'll want to build a good, sturdy structure, and that starts with a sturdy floor. Here's one way you can build a playhouse floor that will last you-and your kids-a lifetime.

Things You'll Need

  • 2- by 4-inch pressure-treated boards
  • Measuring tape
  • Circular saw
  • 3-inch galvanized nails
  • Hammer
  • Roofing felt
  • Staple gun
  • Carpenter's square (optional)
  • 1- by 4-inch pressure-treated boards or sheets of 1/4-inch outdoor plywood
  • 1 1/2-inch galvanized screws
  • Safety goggles or glasses

Instructions

    • 1

Determine how big the playhouse is going to be. Cut 2- by 4-inch pressure-treated boards to the desired length. Place joists 16 inches apart on center and use galvanized 3-inch nails to nail them to the end members.

    • 2

Cut strips of roofing felt and attach along the tops of the joists with staples. This helps prevent the floor from squeaking when you walk on it. It also provides for a more cushioned surface.

    • 3

Make sure the frame of the playhouse floor is square by measuring from one corner to the opposite diagonal corner. The measurement for each diagonal corner should be even. You can also use a carpenter's square to make sure the corners are even.

    • 4

Cover the flooring frame with 1- by 4-inch pressure-treated boards placed tightly next to each other or sheets of outdoor plywood, attached to the flooring frame with galvanized screws.
