How to Play Sunday School Vine and Branches tag

Educators know that a lesson is learned better when kids participate in hands-on activities reinforcing the lesson. In the Christian Bible it says that Jesus is the vine and Christians are the branches, meaning that Jesus is the main support for Christians and cares for them if they stay close to him. A fun way to reinforce this concept is with a game of tag.

Instructions

- 1
  Choose one person to be "It." This person represents Jesus as the vine and tries to tag other players.

  Set boundaries, which represent the good and bad areas of life. Runners need to stay within the boundaries or they are out of the game.

  Instruct the child who is "It" to tag other players and then links arms with them creating "branches." They now work together to catch the others.

  Continue linking arms and running after the players not yet caught. Anyone on the "vine" acting as "branches" can tag other players.

  Watch the players and if their ability to catch others is inhibited by their desire to pull in multiple directions call a time out. During the time out explain that this is like life where people try to ignore Jesus and do their own thing, but it doesn't work. They need to follow Jesus (It) and work as a team for strength.
