Select a Trampoline
Pick the correct size. Trampolines come in miniature sizes, jumbo sizes and medium sizes. The size refers to either the area of a square trampoline or the diameter of a circular trampoline.
Know the age of the kids who will use it. There are miniature trampolines which rise a small distance off of the ground and are most appropriate for younger kids. The large trampolines often sit about 2 to 3 feet above the ground and are best for teenagers or kids of at least 10 years of age.
Buy a trampoline enclosure. Enclosures are a screen that wraps around the entire trampoline in order to prevent kids from falling off. Some trampolines may be sold with the enclosure.
Consider a springless trampoline. These may use other means of elasticity like fabric straps. Typically, they are less bouncy but considered to be safer.
Ask about assembly after you select a trampoline for purchase. Trampoline assembly is notoriously challenging and it could be easier to just hire an expert.
See if you can find a mounting platform. These raised platforms make it much easier for kids to get on top of the trampoline.
Enjoy the Trampoline in the Safest Way Possible
Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for safety. For instance, trampolines may come with an age, height and weight requirement.
Request that neighborhood kids bring written permission from their parents. Trampolines are dangerous even with the necessary safety precautions observed. It's also a good idea to request that parents sign a waiver of liability in case of an accident.
Keep kids under constant supervision. Make sure they are using the trampoline appropriately and that they respect the rules you have set.
Watch the weather. Moist air or rainy days can make the trampoline slippery and potentially dangerous for use.
Place the trampoline on level ground. Whether inside or outside, the trampoline is much more stable when balanced on the ground.
