Make sure the printer software has been installed properly. Do not plug the printer into the computer until the software has been successfully installed. If it doesn't, launch the installer manually by clicking "My Computer" and double-clicking the installation icon.

    • 2

Click "Install" to begin the installation. Follow the prompts until the driver has been successfully installed, then click "Finish." The software installation will begin. You must accept the licensing agreement and click "Next." Follow the remaining prompts to complete the software installation.

    • 3

Make sure the Barbie printer is properly connected to your computer, once the software has been successfully installed. Plug the printer's power cord into an electrical outlet first, then plug the USB cord into an available port on your computer. If your computer doesn't recognize the printer, unplug the USB cord, wait one to two minutes, then plug it back in.

    Ink Issues

    • 4

Clean the ink cartridge if you notice streaks in your designs. Double-click the Barbie icon on your desktop to open the software program. Click the "Settings" tab at the top of the screen, then click "Clean Cartridge." Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the cartridge properly.

    • 5

Remove the ink cartridge if you are still experiencing streaks. Use a clean cotton swab gently to clean the ink jets on the bottom of the cartridge, then replace the ink cartridge.

    • 6

Check the printer ink levels if you are still experiencing streaks, if the colors are dull or if one or more colors is not printing. Click the "Settings" tab at the top of the home screen, then click "Printer." Click "Ink Level" to check the amount of ink left in the ink cartridge.

    • 7

Replace the ink cartridge if the levels are low or depleted. Unwrap the ink cartridge. Carefully remove the tape around it without touching the contacts.

    • 8

Lift the printer lid and wait for the cartridge holder to move completely to the right. Press down on the black release lever to remove the old cartridge. Insert the new cartridge, contact end first, into the holder. Press the ink holder lid down, then close the printer lid.

    Printing Issues

Close all Barbie software windows if you are receiving a Camera or Printer "Failed" error. Unplug the USB cord from the computer, then unplug the printer's power cord. Wait one to two minutes, then plug the power cord and USB back in. Double-click the Barbie icon once the printer is back on.

    Problems Applying the Designs

    • 13

Apply a coat of the white nail polish before printing your designs, otherwise your designs will stain your fingernails. Alternatively, you can apply your own nail polish.

    • 14

Apply a thin coat of white polish if the polish takes too long to dry or if your printed designs appear to "bleed."

    • 15

Avoid blow-drying the white polish, because this can cause a rippled affect. Allow the polish to completely air dry before printing your designs, to avoid streaking.

    • 16

Apply the clear, pre-print polish over the white coat and allow it to dry completely. This coating is important since because prevents smearing and allows the design to adhere to your nails.

    • 17

Make sure your finger is correctly inserted into the finger slot for proper printing. Do not push your finger past the back wall or leave it in the down position.

    • 18

Apply the clear top-coat polish to your nails after printing if you wish to keep the design. Allow the coat to dry completely; otherwise the design will smudge or wipe off.
