How to Dye a Barbie Doll's Hair

Barbie has been around for decades and has seen her fair share of changes. Typically, Barbie has platinum blond hair--which may get a little boring after a while. Using some simple acrylic paint, you can "dye" your Barbie's hair to be any color that you like from dark brown to jet black, from pink to bright blue. And if you get a little paint on Barbie's skin, it wipes off easily with some non-acetone nail polish remover.

Things You'll Need

  • Acrylic paint, any color
  • Small bowl
  • Spoon
  • Plastic wrap
  • Barbie brush
  • Hair dryer

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze the acyclic paint you've chosen into a small bowl. You'll need about 2 tsp. of paint to dye one doll's hair.

    • 2

Add water--1 tsp. at a time--to the paint, stirring thoroughly each time. Add water until the paint is the same consistency as ink.

    • 3

Wrap the body and the neck of your Barbie in plastic wrap. This will help prevent the dye from dripping all over her body.

    • 4

Comb out her hair using a Barbie brush. Dip the brush into the dye, and comb the dye through your Barbie's hair. Ensure her entire hair is completely saturated and evenly dyed.

    • 5

Turn your hair dryer on "Low," and blow dry the doll's hair to heat set the dye. Brush out her hair when finished and remove the plastic wrap from her body.
