Instructions for Hair Scrunchies for 18 Inch Dolls

A scrunchy for a doll's hair can serve a couple purposes. The scrunchy will hold the doll's long hair in place, making it easier to change outfits on the doll. The scrunchy can also be an attractive accessory for the doll's outfit. Make your doll a scrunchy for her hair from any material. Leftover material from a sewing project is the perfect fabric to use when making the doll scrunchy.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of fabric 3 inches by 9 inches. The fabric can be any material. Perhaps you have some left over from a doll's clothing project, or you can purchase inexpensive remnants from a fabric store.

    • 2

Thread your needle in a color that matches the fabric, or set up your sewing machine with thread of a matching color.

    • 3

Fold the piece of fabric in half lengthwise with the patterned side facing in.

    • 4

Sew a seam along the longer edge about 1/2 inch in from the edge. You now have a long tube. Turn it right side out.

    • 5

Attach a safety pin to the end of a 3 inch piece of thin elastic. Holding one end of the elastic, push the safety pin though the fabric until the elastic piece is entirely through the whole fabric, scrunching the fabric as you push the pin through.

    • 6

Take the pin off the elastic and hand tie a knot with the two ends of the elastic, closing the elastic into a circle.

    • 7

Turn the edges of the fabric in about 1/2 inch at each end, so the frayed edges of the fabric do not show. Sew the two ends together to close the circle and make the scrunchy.
