How do I Give Barbie an Upsweep Hairdo?

Barbie dolls can endure many activities during each day depending on the range of their owner's imagination. The child may insist the Barbie play the role of super mom, a pediatrician, professional gymnast and a helicopter pilot all in one day. Little girls typically change the doll's hairstyle as often as her clothing. This type of a hectic lifestyle can wreak havoc with the doll's hair, particularly if a fabulous up-sweep hairdo is necessary for a formal gala that the doll and owner must attend. Giving the Barbie an up-do will show off the doll's beautiful designer gown and jewels.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your Barbie's hair with an all-purpose household cleaner, such as 409 or Windex. Spray it on and blot the hair with a clean towel. You can also use a wig cleaner if you have it.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of liquid fabric softener or a detangling spray to the Barbie's hair. This will condition it and make it easier to comb.

    • 3

Comb out the Barbie's hair with a wide tooth comb until it is tangle free.

    • 4

Roll up small sections of the Barbie's hair by using toothpicks broken in half or plastic straws. Use bobby pins to hold the curls in place.

    • 5

Allow the Barbie's hair to air dry for several hours or overnight.

    • 6

Take the rollers out of the Barbie's hair, making sure not to stretch the curl.

    • 7

Pull the Barbie's hair carefully into a loose ponytail at the crown of the doll's head and wrap the rubber band snugly around the hair strands near the scalp.

    • 8

Tie a narrow sparkly ribbon around the rubber band to match the Barbie's evening gown.
