Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut your straws into small, 3/4-inch pieces. You'll need about 20 for Barbie's hair. If you'd like her to have curly hair, choose small cocktail straws; for wavy hair, choose regular-sized straws; and for voluminous hair, use thick milkshake straws.
Pour water into a saucepan. Place the pan on the stove, set to high heat. Allow the water to come to a full boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
Fill a large drinking glass about 3/4 full with cold water. Fill the rest of the glass with ice cubes. Set aside.
Run Barbie's hair under warm water. Apply a dime-sized drop of shampoo to her hair. Use a Barbie brush to brush the shampoo through her hair--do not massage the shampoo in her hair, as this can cause knots.
Spray Barbie's hair with a detangling spray. Brush this through her hair to remove any leftover knots.
Pull a small section of hair away from the rest of the hair. Roll the hair into the straw. Roll the straw all the way up to Barbie's head. Insert a bobby pin through the hair and inside the straw to keep the straw in place. Repeat this until all the hair has been rolled up in straws. The straws will act like perming rods.
Place Barbie in the sink. Carefully, pour the simmering water over her hair. Then, pour the ice water over her hair.
Place Barbie right-side up in the large empty drinking glass--used for the ice water--to allow her hair to dry. The hair may take up to 15 hours to completely dry.
Remove the bobby pins and the rollers from Barbie's hair when it has dried.
