How to Wash Barbie Hair

Barbie dolls have been loved by girls for generations. Though older girls or adults may keep their Barbies as collector pieces, younger girls just want to play with them. When they are played with, taken outside, taken to school and passed around, Barbie's hair can look anything but perfect. It's important to remember Barbie's hair is synthetic; therefore, washing it with regular shampoo and conditioner may not work well in getting the hair clean and detangled. Luckily, there is a way.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 cups water
  • Medium-sized bowl
  • 1 cup fabric softener

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 3 cups of water into a medium-sized bowl. Add 1 cup of fabric softener to the water. Stir the mixture with a spoon. For a Barbie whose hair is severely tangled and knotted, use 3 cups of water with 3 cups of fabric softener.

    • 2

Place the Barbie into the mixture headfirst. Let her hair soak in the mixture overnight.

    • 3

Comb through the hair, using a Barbie brush. Start at the ends of the hair and work your way to the scalp.

    • 4

Rinse the fabric softener mixture out of Barbie's hair under tepid water.

    • 5

Allow the hair to dry completely (about 12 hours) before styling. Never blow dry Barbie's hair because it can cause tangles.
