How to Restyle a Barbie Doll's Hair

Barbie hair looks great---even perfect---when she's brand new. After a few months of brushing, ratting and playing with the hair, it can start to look tattered. To make your Barbie's hair look new again, you need to restyle it. With a few inexpensive tools you can give your Barbie a whole new look.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather the straws and cut them into 3/4-inch pieces. The straw will be used as rollers. For tight, perm-like curls, use tiny cocktail straws. For loose curls, use a standard sized straw. For large curls or waves, use thick straws (such as those from McDonald's).

    • 2

Pour water into a small sauce pot so that it is almost full. Boil the water over high heat. Once it begins to boil, lower the heat so the water simmers.

    • 3

Pour cold water and ice cubes in a small bowl.

    • 4

Apply a dime-size drop of shampoo to the Barbie's hair. Lightly, brush the shampoo though the hair, then wash it out. Spray some detangling spray into the hair and brush it through.

    • 5

Brush the Barbie's hair back. Form the hair into a ponytail, securing with a hair tie.

    • 6

Roll small sections of hair up into the straw rollers. Insert a bobby pin through the straw to secue the roller in place. Continue this until all of the Barbie's hair is in rollers.

    • 7

Pour the simmering water over the Barbie's curlers. Then pour the ice water over the curlers. Set the doll aside and allow the hair to dry for 10 to 15 hours.

    • 8

Remove the rollers from the dry hair. For some added volume, lightly brush the hair.
