Knitting the Purse
Gather your supplies. Sport weight yarn in any fiber choice or color is acceptable for this project and it is a great way to use up small amounts of scraps from other arts and crafts projects.
Cast on approximately 25 stitches using your yarn and the method of your choice. Knit back and forth until the piece measures four inches from top to bottom. Cast off.
Measure the number of stitches per inch. You should have approximately six stitches per inch. If you have more stitches per inch, try using a larger needle size. If you have fewer stitches per inch, switch to a smaller pair of knitting needles.
Cast on 10 stitches. Leave an extra tail of yarn at the cast on edge that is approximately three inches long.
Knit each side of the fabric in garter stitch until the piece measures approximately one inch. A fancier stitch pattern that does not curl, such as moss stitch or ribbing, would also be appropriate.
Bind off all stitches, taking care to bind off in whatever stitch pattern you knit in. Cut the yarn so that a three inch tail remains.
Finishing
Thread the tapestry needle with the tail of yarn from the cast on edge.
Fold the knit fabric in half. Sew one edge of the folded fabric shut. Secure the yarn by weaving it through the knit fabric on the inside of the purse. Cut any excess yarn. Repeat this process with the tail of yarn from the bind-off edge of the fabric.
Bend the filigree jewelry finding in half with pliers. Dab a small bit of hot glue on the side of the knit fabric pouch that has open edges.
Slide the bent metal filigree piece onto the pouch making sure to press down over the hot glue to secure the jewelry finding in place.
Use the pliers to open up a link at one end of the chain. Slide the loop through one of the open spaces in the glued-down filigree piece. Close the loop using the pliers. Repeat for the opposite side of bag.
