Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut heavy cardboard into 15 x 24-inch rectangles. Use a box cutter and straightedge to cut the cardboard. If you are making the project with a child, this step needs to be done by the adult. The cardboard will be the "walls," with 24 inches being the width of the wall. You will cut as many "walls" as you plan to have in your house.
Mark the top of each wall. While this may not seem important now, you will need to remember which end is the top of the wall, and which end is the bottom of the wall. Use a pencil to lightly make a mark to designate one 24-inch length as the "top" of the wall.
Cut strips of 15-inch bias tape, two strips for each wall. Bias tape is simply a ribbon that is about an inch wide and has been folded in half.
Attach a strip of bias tape to each outer edge of the "wall". To do this you will first run a bead of glue from the hot glue gun along one 15-inch length of a cardboard rectangle. Note that the bias tape is folded in half. One half of the tape will be pressed along the glue and attached to the board. The other half will be left "flapping" at the end of the board. Repeat on the other side of the board. There will be no bias tape along the bottom or top of the board (which is the 24-inch edge).
Cut strips of Velcro into 15-inch strips, one strip for each wall.
Pull the Velcro strip apart and look closely at the textured portion. Note that the two sides are different. One side is softer than the other.
Turn the "wall" or cardboard rectangle so that the top of the wall is on top. Affix the softer side of the Velcro strip to the right side of the wall, attaching along the flap of bias tape. To do this, run a bead of glue from the hot glue gun along the flap of bias tape on the right side of the wall. Glue the back side of the strip of Velcro along the flap of bias.
Run a bead of hot glue from the glue gun along the bias flap attached to the left side of the wall. Secure the back side of the remaining piece of Velcro along this flap.
Repeat on all the "walls." It is important to always affix the same texture Velcro to the same end of the wall. All soft textures are to be affixed to the right side, and all rougher texture are to be affixed to the left side. When the walls are completed, they will be hooked together using the Velcro. If the wrong piece of Velcro is attached to the wrong end of the wall, they will not stick together.
Embellish the walls. Create the walls by adding wallpaper, cutting out windows or adding other embellishments.
Add wallpaper by painting a layer of white glue over the cardboard and adding thin fabric. Coat the outside with a light coat of glue to give a layer of protection.
Add embellishments by cutting out images from magazines, such as television sets or artwork. Use the decoupage glue to attach the images to the wall. Cover with a light coat of the decoupage glue to finish.
Attach walls together by the Velcro. Add additional Velcro to other sections of the wall to make other wall additions if necessary.
