How to Convert a Baby Pool to a Splash Pad

A splash pad is a water feature used for play by children. The splash pad consists of the pad, or rain deck, and ground nozzles that spray water upward intermittently. Commonly installed in parks in heavily populated areas, splash pads do not hold standing water so there is no need for lifeguards. Old plastic baby pools, however, can be converted to smaller-scale splash pads. It takes approximately one to two hours to complete the task.

Instructions

    • 1

Dig a small shallow trench in the ground leading to where the splash pad will be laid out. A standard shovel or spade can be used to dig the trench. The trench needs to be deep enough to house the hose so it does not rise above ground level.

    • 2

Cut the sides away from the baby pool with a handheld PVC saw.

    • 3

Sand the edges of the baby pool with a power sander along the edges where it was cut. This removes sharp edges that can scratch or possibly cause injury.

    • 4

Cut a small circle in the center bottom of the baby pool with the PVC saw just large enough to fit a sprinkler head through.

    • 5

Connect a sprinkler to the hose and place the hose in the trench that was dug. Insert the sprinkler in the ground.

    • 6

Lay the body of the splash pad down onto the ground, allowing the sprinkler head to emerge through the hole in the center of the pad. Turn the hose on.
