Things You'll Need
Instructions
Draw the outline of the toy boat's sails on a piece of cardboard with a pencil. Use a ruler to create the shape of a right triangle. You can make the sail as small or as large as you wish. Cut out the triangles to use as stencils.
Trace the triangle stencils on a sheet of fun foam. Cut out the shapes using scissors.
Use a hole punch to make two holes in each foam sail. Put one hole in the corner of the sail's right angle. Punch a second hole in the corner of the sail's longest side.
Take some straws and use scissors to trim them down to 3-4 inches in length. The straw pieces are the masts of the boat. Slip them in the holes you punched in the sails.
Take the bottom of one of the straw pieces with a sail attached, and stick it in the middle of a sponge. Place the boat in bath water. The boat will float for awhile, but then you will need to take out the straw pieces and squeeze out the excess water so that the sponge does not sink.
