How to Make Handmade Bathtub Toys

Bath toys can help make bath time a little less stressful for any parent and child. Making your own bath toys can be an added bonus, which can provide fun, creative time with your children as well. Instructions

    • 1

Start by cutting out two rectangles from your sheet of craft foam. You'll want the rectangles to be about 4 inches by 3 inches.

    • 2

Cut out shapes for the turtle's head, feet and tails. Cut out four identical teardrop shapes about 1 inch wide for the feet. The head will be a slightly larger teardrop shape, and the tail will be a long triangle shape.

    • 3

Sew the head, feet and tail to one of your rectangle cutouts. Sew the head in the middle of one of the shorter sides, and the tail on the opposite shorter side in the center. Sew the feet an equal distance apart on both of the longer sides of your rectangle.

    • 4

Punch out four holes on both of the longer sides of your rectangle, equal distance apart, then punch out two holes on either side of the head and tail. These will be used to tie the sides of your turtle together.

    • 5

Punch out holes on your second rectangle cutout, using the first one as a guide, so that both cutouts have holes punched out in the same exact spots.

    • 6

Place your bar of soap in between the two rectangle cutouts, then using your thick latex thread begin at one of the holes around the tail and slowly loop your thread through each hole around the edges tying the two rectangular cutouts together. When you've looped all the way around your rectangles, simply knot the thread.

    • 7

Use your permanent marker to draw two round, black eyes on the head, and add a design on the back as you choose. You now have a functional and friendly looking bath-time toy. When soap runs out, simply untie the thread and put a new bar in your turtle.
