Sunlite Rear Carrier Instructions

The Sunlite rear carrier bike rack serves as a convenient accessory for your bicycle. Carrying loaded backpacks for any distance can be awkward and tiring. The Sunlite spring-loaded carrier takes the burden off the rider by providing a strong and stable platform that will hold a package of up to 50 pounds. The Sunlite rear carrier measures 5 inches wide and 14 inches long. It has alloy construction and a powder black finish. It comes with a kit that contains adapter brackets to fit a variety of bikes and profiles.

Instructions

    • 1

Stabilize your bike on a kickstand. Separate the components in your Sunlite carrier kit package . You will have two short bracket rods, two long bracket rods, six spacers and six small bolts. Hold the carrier frame over the top of the rear wheel of your bike and center it lengthwise, to judge the approximate positioning location. Hold up the short and long bracket rods and decide which ones will accommodate the length best. You will use either two short rods or two long rods.

    • 2

Locate the eye holes on each side of the frame near the center of the rear wheel. If the eye holes have factory bolts, remove them with an Allen wrench, or use a socket if they require it. Locate the two eye holes in the upper part of the bike frame just under the rear seat mounting shaft. Unscrew the factory bolts with an Allen wrench or a socket and wrench.

    • 3

Assemble the two rods onto the back part of the carrier frame, by placing the square adapters over the square frames connected to the rods. Stick a spacer and bolt down through the slot in the rear of the carrier frame, slide the adapter underneath it, and screw the bolt in with an Allen wrench. Do this on both sides of the carrier frame. Use the Allen wrench to tighten both adjusting nuts on the adapter, just enough to allow the rod to slide with tension.

    • 4

Place both ends of the rods into the eye holes, and insert a spacer and bolt in each side. Tighten the bolts with the Allen wrench, ensuring they are not too tight. Position the bottom of the carrier frame with the eye holes near the wheel center. Pull the adjusting bracket up or down to align it with the eye holes. Place a spacer and bolt through both sides of the bike frame, passing the bolt through the sliding bracket. Tighten the bolts with an Allen wrench, but leave them slightly loose.

    • 5

Push the bike carrier forward or backward to center it over the rear wheel -- the front bracket rods will slide allowing for the adjustment. Use an Allen wrench to tighten the rear bike frame eye-hole bolts, the adjusting bolts on the carrier adapter brackets and the two lower eye-hole bolts near the rear wheel. You can make any fine adjustment you wish by loosening the sliding lower bracket or the carrier rear adjusting brackets.
