Function
Being simply made with two wheels, a seat and a frame, a push bike teaches the rider how to balance while pushing it along at a speed that is comfortable. In contrast, riding a normal bicycle teaches about pedaling as a first concern and balancing as an after thought.
Significance
Push bikes are designed mainly for children beginning at 2 years of age. The early introduction of balance and control helps develop their emerging motor control skills without the obstruction of learning to pedal along with balancing.
Considerations
A push bike can instill the confidence within a child of being in control of her body. Also, once a normal two-wheeler bicycle is introduced, a child has already grasped the concept of balance, so now she just need to incorporate the pedaling action.
