How to Make Bicycle Spinners

The flash of a bicycle spinner made out of a recycled plastic water bottle will fascinate bike riders of all ages. Personalize the spinner with your favorite colors of electrical tape and ride like the wind. This is a great summer craft project for youngsters who will be the hit of the next neighborhood bike parade. Create a matching set of spinners for the entire family. This project also makes a great homemade gift from a child to a bike-riding mom or dad.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the electrical tape around the plastic bottle width-wise in alternating stripes.

    • 2

Cut the bottom 2 inches off the plastic bottle and cut the bottle into four even sections, cutting from the bottom up to the bottleneck. Round off sharp corners and bend the sections so they flay out almost flat from the neck.

    • 3

Cut the dowel with the saw to measure 6 inches.

    • 4

Attach the dowel to the handlebars, pointing forward and away from any brake cables, with electrical tape.

    • 5

Place the bottle cap on the end of the dowel and attach it loosely with a thumbtack, leaving the open end of the cap forward.

    • 6

Screw in the bottle spinner, making sure the spinner does not touch any bike parts.
