Bike Polo
Polo is a game originally played on horses, in which teams of riders try to score against each other by hitting a ball into a net or score-zone using mallets similar to those used in croquet. However, this game can be especially fun and challenging when played on bicycles, as pedaling and braking are necessary to perform well. Set up two hockey nets or sets of cones to use as a goal at each end of a driveway or other playing area. You can make mallets using broomsticks and PVC pipe, or buy them from a game supply store. For an extra challenge, change the rules so that if a member of either team falls off of his bike at any point during the game, that team loses a point.
T.R.I.C.K.
T.R.I.C.K. is a game originally conceived by skateboarders in the form of S.K.A.T.E. Played between two people, the game provides a way to test a rider's skill in performing tricks on command, or "on lock." Roll a die or play rock-paper-scissors to determine who goes first. The first player can perform any trick she wants. If she performs the trick successfully, the second player must replicate it. Failure to do so results in the rider earning the letter T. If the first player fails to perform a trick, the second player may "take the lead" and set a trick for the first player. The game progresses in this fashion until either player acquires all of the letters in the word T.R.I.C.K.
Bike Lock Pick-Up
Every BMX or stunt rider should carry a lock to secure his bicycle when he is not riding or otherwise near it. But these locks can also be used to play a fun game called "Bike Lock Pick-Up." Toss all of the players' bike locks in a pile at the center of a driveway or other open area. Then all players mount their bikes at one time, and on the count of three, ride toward the locks and attempt to pick up their respective lock without getting off the bike. If a player falls or otherwise dismounts her bike while the game is in progress she is "out." If a player successfully picks up his lock, he advances to the next round, which excludes those who are "out." The game progresses until only one player is left, who is the winner.
