How to Soften Cow Udders

Cows udders get chapped and calloused if they're not cared for properly. This is especially true if you're milking your cows. Keeping your cow's udders soft and comfortable is necessary if you don't want them to crack and bleed from lack of softening. Knowing how to soften a cow's udders isn't time consuming and is a part of maintaining a happy and healthy cow.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on latex gloves. Position the milking stool to the side of your cow where she is comfortable with you being.

    • 2

Scoop out a liberal amount udder cream, such as Bag Balm, with your first two fingers.

    • 3

Rug your fingers together to spread out the udder cream a little. Reach out and grasp your cow's udders as if you are going to milk her.

    • 4

Massage the cream into the cow's udders firmly, but gently. Use the fingers on both hands to really work the cream into your cow's teets.

    • 5

Reapply this balm twice a day or whenever the udders seem dry.
