Engine Basics
The 2011 CBR 600RR is a 599-cubic-centimeter engine (the volume refers to the volume of the cylinders swept by the pistons). The engine has four cylinders arranged in a line, with four valves per cylinder, and the engine is liquid-cooled.
Cylinders and Pistons
The engine has a bore and stroke of 2.6 by 1.7 inches and a compression ratio of 12.2 to one. The bore is the diameter of the engine cylinder opening, and the stroke is the total distance the piston travels up and down. Compression ratio is the ratio of the volume between the piston and cylinder head before and after a compression stroke.
Fuel
The fuel induction is a two-stage fuel-injection system using 40-mm throttle bodies and Denso 12-hole injectors, and the ignition uses a digital transistorized system with three-dimensional mapping, controlled by computer.
