How to Build a LEGO Mecha

Mecha is a word used to describe robots driven by humans. These mechanical beasts are in popular cartoon and anime series such as "Transformers," "Gundam" and "Robotech." Since LEGO pieces come in so many shapes and colors, building mecha out of LEGOs is possible. Before attempting to build a mecha using real LEGOs, use LEGO's DesignByMe computer program. This allows you to see how pieces go together and what colors are available.

Instructions

    • 1

Download DesignByMe by visiting the official link, http://designbyme.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx, and clicking "Download Now."

    • 2

Open the DesignByMe file on your computer. Read the directions and choose to "Install" the program.

    • 3

Open DesignByMe by double-clicking the desktop icon.

    • 4

Build robotic-looking legs. Mechas usually have long, slender legs that are designed for speed and mobility. Do this by connecting blocks in the center of DesignByMe's screen.

    • 5

Build a slender body on top of the legs. Build arms that come off each side of the body and a head on top.

    • 6

Click the "Upload" button to send the design to LEGO. Click "Check Price" to receive a price on how much it would cost to build the mecha with real LEGO parts. If you wish, you can buy the LEGO parts in this screen.
