Thomas the Train Wooden Track Ideas

Thomas the Tank Engine toys come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The wooden track set is arguably the most popular of these toys. The wooden railway line features Thomas-related characters, bridges, tunnels, tables and wooden tracks. With all of the different ways to assemble the tracks, you may need a little help getting started.
  1. Island of Sodor

    • One Thomas the Tank Engine track layout takes wooden tracks and other pieces to build the "Ultimate Island of Sodor." You build two different levels of track, including the roundhouse, oil depot and Knapford bridge on the upper level, and the water tower, recycling center and ice cream factory on the lower level.

    Thomas Up High

    • The versatile features of Thomas the Tank Engine wooden tracks provide a lot of creative ideas. If you have the room to create something outside of the traditional Sodor Island, why not create a multi-level train wonderland. You'll need to use a bit of carpentry to create eight or nine different levels in the corner of a room, with train tracks winding around every level. Use plenty of ascending tracks to create correct slopes.

    Thomas Down Low

    • Create a "mega-track" in a playroom with wooden pieces winding in between, under and around furniture. Incorporate other toys into the mix, with trains running over books, under chairs and climbing over dolls. Place toys around the room so that when your child enters, he is able to adventure in each part of the room. Maybe there is a GI Joe mission on one part of the track, and Thomas needs to bring supplies. Use toy cars, such as Hot Wheels, with tracks intertwining on another part of the track.
