How to Make Furby Go to Sleep

A Furby is an interactive electronic pet with a soft furry exterior. They were the hit of the Christmas retail season in 1998, and remained highly popular through the early 2000's. Sensors are located all over the toy that make it respond to stimuli in the environment. Blocking or activating certain sensors is the trick to getting one to fall into sleep mode.

Instructions

  1. Sleep Mode

    • 1

Stroke the back of the Furby gently 10 to 20 times in a row until it passes into sleep mode.

    • 2

Place your hands over the eyes of the Furby or place Furby in a very dark room for approximately 20 seconds. The perceived darkness will send the Furby into sleep mode.

    • 3

Leave the Furby alone without any direct interaction for five minutes. The Furby is programmed to switch to sleep mode automatically after five minutes of non-use.

    • 4

Turn on a light or gently shake Furby to wake it up.

    Deep Sleep

    • 5

Clap or shout loudly three consecutive times in the presence of the Furby. Watch the eyes of the Furby to make sure it reacts to each sound, then stroke Furby's back once after the third sound is recognized.

    • 6

Squeeze the Furby in the front and back to compress both sensors as it sings "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Before the third repetition of the song is complete the Furby will yawn and go into deep sleep mode.

    • 7

Turn the Furby completely upside down for a couple seconds to wake it from deep sleep mode. The deep sleep mode is a storage and transport feature that is unfortunately not available on the first generation Furby models.
