How to Create LEGO People

Since the mid-1970s, minifigures have been a key part of the LEGO product line. The original LEGO people were nearly indistinguishable, with every figurine bearing the trademark yellow skin and cheerful smile. Their bodies, surprisingly similar to the building bricks themselves, were angular and rigid. Despite or because of their simplicity, LEGO people managed to capture the imagination of children across the globe. In the years since, minifigures have expanded to feature more inclusive and realistic skin tones, expressions, outfits, and props. From the cast of Harry Potter to zombie cheerleaders, you can find or create just about anyone in LEGO form.

Instructions

    • 1
      LEGO store

Develop a character for your LEGO minifigure. Every LEGO figure has a back story, catch-phrase, and occupation. Deciding these elements makes it easier to choose your body parts.

    • 2

Choose a head. LEGO minifigures have different expressions. From menacing to messy you can find a head to suit your project at the LEGO store.

    • 3

Attach a torso to the legs. Make sure the toes and t-shirt face forward. If your character has a belt accessory, you will need to place this between the torso and leg pieces.

    • 4

Join the head to the body. If you are using a cape or backpack attachment, this needs to be in place before the head is attached.

    • 5

Attach the hands to the arms; and then the shoulder to the torso. You may match or intentionally mix-match the skin-tone of the hands and arms. (e.g. Use black hands with yellow skin to look like gloves.)

    • 6

Choose a headpiece for your person. Your LEGO person may have a hat, helmet, or hairdo. You will not be able to choose multiple pieces as they are designed to be used individually.
