How to Make a Lightsaber Out of Household Items

For generations, "Star Wars" has dazzled audiences with its unique characters and graphics. By far the most memorable weapon of the Star Wars franchise is the lightsaber. While it is the official weapon of the Jedi, it is used by bad guys as well. Realistic lightsaber replicas can cost a pretty penny at toy and hobby shops. However, you can make one at home with simple household items. Life-like sounds not included.

Things You'll Need

  • Bottom-loading flashlight
  • Clear cylindrical PVC pipe cut to the length of your flashlight
  • Duct tape
  • Highlighter tape
  • Clear transparency sheet (optional)
  • Colored saran wrap (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the light end of your flashlight with highlighter tape in your desired color. If you do not have highlighter tape, you can use colored saran wrap or even no color filter at all.

    • 2

Fit the piece of clear PVC pipe around the light end of your flashlight. Make sure it fits tightly around your flashlight. If it is somewhat loose, wrap it with duct tape to secure into place. If you do not have a piece of clear PVC pipe, you can use transparent tape to attach a clear transparency sheet around your flashlight's face. To do this, simply wrap the transparency around the light by forming it into a cylinder and taping it in place.

Paint or color your lightsaber as desired.
