How Are Badges Made?

Making a toy badge can add a great deal to a police costume or when playing cops and robbers. The toy badge can be altered to be of any sort: a sheriff's badge, a police badge or any other you may want to make. When you are finished making your badge, you're ready for a day of play.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw out the pattern you'd like to use with your marker onto your cardboard. Do the drawing on the side of the material that will not be showing. Draw the same pattern of the exact same size onto your piece of felt on the side that won't show.

    • 2

Write the letters of the type of badge you'd like to make on the felt. Again, do this on the side that won't show. An example of letters that you might draw on a badge might be "Smith House Police"

    • 3

Cut out the two patterns and the letters you drew and size them up by clipping edges that don't exactly match. Get the letters of the badge as close to the same size as possible.

    • 4

Sew the letters onto the piece of material. Sew them onto the side that you'd like to be the front of the badge.

    • 5

Start sewing the two badge cutouts together. Don't sew them all the way shut. Instead, spread out the cotton balls and stuff the badge, making sure that the seam remains tight and sealed.

    • 6

Finish sewing the edges closed while continuing to fill the stuffing. When the seam is entirely closed, tie the thread and cut the excess felt away.
