How to Clean Yellowed LEGOS

Majestic castles, futuristic space stations and colorful skyscrapers can become a reality in an afternoon or two, with a LEGO set. This building toy has been capturing the creative minds of children for decades, and some grown-ups still have their old collections stowed away. Over time, and after exposure to ultraviolet light, the plastic LEGOs are made of can yellow. You can remove this yellow cast using simple household cleaning products.

Things You'll Need

  • Large bowl
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Measuring spoons
  • Oxygenated laundry detergent
  • Paint stirring stick
  • Strainer
  • Towel

Instructions

      Fill a large bowl halfway full with hydrogen peroxide. Add 2 to 3 tbsp. of oxygenated laundry detergent to the bowl, and mix with a paint stirring stick.

      Place your yellowed LEGOs into the bowl, and agitate gently with the stirring stick. Allow the LEGOs to sit undisturbed in the mixture overnight or until the yellow cast is no longer visible.

      Place the strainer in your sink, and empty the bowl into it. Run fresh water over the LEGOs, to rinse way any remaining solution. Shake the strainer gently to remove excess water.

      Arrange the LEGO pieces on a towel, and allow them to dry completely.
