How to Make a Clown With Play Dough

Play dough is a colorful, nontoxic building material children use to explore their creativity and exercise fine motor skills. Instructions

    • 1

Create a round ball from yellow play dough that measures 1 ½ inches in all directions. Make another ball of the same size from blue play dough.

    • 2

Press the two balls together and bond them in the center. The blue portion is the clown̵7;s lower body and the yellow is his upper body. Reshape the larger, combined circle into an oval that measures 3 inches in height.

    • 3

Make two blue ovals the size of peanuts and press these onto the bottom of the yellow oval. These are the clown̵7;s feet.

    • 4

Make two oblong cylinders from white play dough. Make the cylinders about the thickness of a pencil and about 1 ½ inches long. These are the clown̵7;s arms.

    • 5

Attach one arm above each foot at the upper corners of the oval body.

    • 6

Create small blue disks from the play dough that are about the size of dimes. Attach these to the ends of the clown̵7;s wrists.

    • 7

Create a circle the size of a gumball using white play dough to emulate clown makeup. This is the clown̵7;s head.

    • 8

Attach the head to the top of the oval body. Place a flat sheet of yellow play dough on top of the head. This is the clown̵7;s hair.

    • 9

Draw circles on the hair using the edge of a toothpick. This adds texture and depicts characteristically curly clown hair.

    • 10

Make a small red ball the size of a ladybug. This is the clown̵7;s nose. Press it into the center of the face.

    • 11

Create two flat blue discs of play dough the size of your pinky fingernail as the clown's eyes. Make a mark in the center of each eye using a black marker to represent the pupil. Position the eyes next to one another above the nose.

    • 12

Make a thin red strip of of play dough that is long enough to span the front half of the head. This is the clown's mouth. Press it in place beneath the nose.
