How to Make a Yo-Yo String From Everyday Items

When a yo-yo string snaps you have two choices: buy a new yo-yo, or fix the one that's broken. The latter option is cheaper. Moreover, it's easy to make a replacement string with a few items from around the home. There is little difference between homemade strings and commercial ones. Once you get the hang of it you might find you never buy a string again.

Things You'll Need

  • Board with a nail in it
  • Spool of cotton string
  • Power drill with a hookbit
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Place the board on the floor. Place the drill about 10 feet away.

    • 2

Tie the end of the strong around the nail.

    • 3

Run the string to the drill. Loop it around the hook once, then take it back to the board. Loop it around the nail again.

    • 4

Repeat this six times. The thread will now be running back and forth between the drill and the board 14 times, creating a multi stringed loop. Cut the string from the spool and tie it to the end of the nail.

    • 5

Turn on the drill. Keep it on until the string is about 10 inches shorter. This will take around a minute.

    • 6

Take the loop off the drill. Tie a knot in this end of the thread so it doesn't unravel.

    • 7

Tie another knot as close to the nail as you can. Cut off the excess off both ends so that you are left with a long corded string with knots at both ends.
