How to Make a LEGO City on a LEGO Table

Playing with LEGOs can benefit kids in many different ways. It encourages active problem-solving and teaches lessons on following directions while also allowing kids' imaginations to thrive. For real LEGO enthusiasts, having a central location to build and experiment with different structures may be especially fun, and parents can purchase large LEGO tables to accommodate this large-scale construction. Those looking to make an entire city on a LEGO table should keep these steps in mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan the theme and setting for your LEGO city. This can be as personalized as you want it to be. Enthusiasts of medieval LEGO sets might want to stick to fantasy pieces including castles and horses; pirate enthusiasts may choose to build a vast landscape of corsair-infested waters and islands; and fans of Harry Potter may want to try to replicate Hogwarts. Mixing different sets can be a great way to come up with a LEGO theme all your own.

    • 2

Gather your materials. Generally, the tables can hold at least four large, fully-constructed sets, with lots of space for smaller sets. Purchase any additional sets you may need to tie your masterpiece together.

    • 3

Decide if you want to build LEGO sets according to the directions or if you want to create something totally unique. Even if you do decide to build sets as the directions instruct, it might be fun to build your own roadways, buildings or bridges connecting different areas and sets together. Map out where each set or building is going to go once you've decided.

Start building! Use LEGO instructions as a guide if you want to build sets as LEGO intended. The Official LEGO website has a database of many of its LEGO guides, if you can't find your hard copy. Don't be afraid to try a more organic approach, using LEGO pieces to create buildings and structures all your own. Be sure to leave room for LEGO characters to walk around and space to access each area once you've finished.

Start playing. This is the best test to see whether or not your city is successful and if you'll want to make modifications.
