Instructions

    • 1
Recycle cardboard boxes into a toy.

Choose which side of the box will be the front of the puppet theater. Lay the box with the front flat on your work surface.

    • 2

Use the craft knife to remove the back of the box and all four sides so they are about 7-inches high.

    • 3

Cut the the bottom corners of the theater at an angle and trim the bottom so it is about 3-inches wide. This will give the puppeteers more room to work the puppets.

    • 4

Use the ruler to draw a rectangle on the front of the box for the stage opening. Leave a good sized border around the opening, or your box will fall apart. Cut out the rectangle.

    • 5

Cover the entire box with the colored duct tape Be sure to secure any loose flaps and reinforce weak seams with double layers. This will not only give you a colorful puppet theater, it will be durable for many shows.

    • 6

Mark the center of each sidewall at the top and bottom, very close to the edge. These will be the four holes, two on each side of the theater, for the tension rods.

    • 7

Cut four holes for two of the tension rods. Cut one set in the top middle and the other set on the bottom middle. Each hole should be centered in the sidewall and as close to the seam as possible. Remove one end of each tension rod to measure the size for your hole. If the hole is too big, the box will wiggle instead of staying securely in place.

    • 8

Feed one tension rod through the top hole on one side and out the top hole on the opposite side. Feed the second rod through the bottom hole on one side and out the bottom hole on the opposite side.

    • 9

Adjust the curtain rods as necessary to hang the puppet theater in the doorway.

    • 10

Thread the old curtain onto the third curtain rod and hang it just below the theater to hide the puppeteers.
