How to Make a Phone Booth

Every play-time Clark Kent needs a place from which to emerge when a citizen is in trouble. Give your Superman a place to hang his cape with his very phone booth made of cardboard. The basic set-up will take just minutes and requires a tall, wardrobe-style box from the last time you moved. You can add style with a paint job and marking drawings, or you can even hang a shoe box inside to represent the cardboard phone.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard wardrobe and shoe boxes
  • Pencil
  • Yardstick or level
  • Utility knife
  • Black marker
  • Wide transparent tape
  • Telephone receiver with cord

Instructions

    • 1

Stand the wardrobe box up and make a pencil mark at a point about two-thirds of the way across the bottom of what will be the front of the box. Make a second mark about two-thirds of the way up the length of the box, in line with the original mark.

    • 2

Draw a straight line between the pencil marks using a yardstick or level. From the top mark, draw a straight line two-thirds of the way across the box to the corner. These will be the cut lines.

    • 3

Cut along the marked lines using a utility knife. Additionally, cut the bottom of the box, parallel to the top cut line and along the corner edge, so the "door" can swing freely.

    • 4

Write "TELEPHONE" above the door with a black marker. Draw two squares with the marker on the door and each of the other sides to represent windows.

    • 5

Tape a cardboard shoe box about two-thirds of the way up the wall opposite of the door inside the booth. Place an old telephone receiver inside the shoe box. Tape its cord to the back of the shoe box.
