About Calico Critters
Calico Critters are families of various types of animals, all about 1 inch tall, that have different names and identities. All the families live in a fictional town called "Cloverleaf Corners." There are families of hedgehogs, such as the Pickleweeds Hedgehog Family, which is a family of six hedgehogs that has a family band called the "Sonic Six." There is also the Ellwoods Elephant Family, the Hopscotch Rabbit Family, the Furbanks Squirrel Family, and more. Some also come in twin sets, such as the Fisher Cat Twins. The critters also have separately sold homes and toys, which range from $6 to over $200, as of the date of publication.
Home and Accessory Projects
Calico Critters have many accessories and homes that can be mixed and matched to create unique critter projects. Children can use bedroom furniture sets, living room sets, swings, and playrooms to create a unique critter house. At the time of publication, homes can be purchased for $90 to over $200, such as the Townhome or the Cloverleaf Manor House. Children can create towns by purchasing horse sets, playgrounds, dentist sets, grocery store sets, cars and more to create a calico narrative in an exciting Calico Critters town.
Coloring Projects
Many projects can be made by coloring images of Calico Critters. Calico Critter bookmarks can be made by cutting out a 4-inch rectangular piece of styrofoam project paper. Print out colorless images of the critters, color them in with crayons or markers, and use glue to paste the images on the bookmark. Calico Critters coloring books can also be purchased to color different critter scenarios. Stickers can also be stuck on construction paper to create a greeting card, or placed on a piece of styrofoam project paper to create a decorative doorknob hanger.
Calico Critters Lap Book
A Calico Critters Lap Book is a book with flat calico critters figurines that can be used for fun play. A lap book can be created by first covering a legal-sized binder with construction paper. Print out pictures of Calico Critters, cut out each figure, and place sticky velcro on to the back of each one. Place the other side of the velcro on the front or inside of the book, on which the characters can stick. For the inside, cut and paste a Calico Critters scene, such as park or playground, or a pastoral scene from a magazine. The critters can be taken off with velcro and placed onto the scene in different ways.
