How to Lubricate Duncan Yo-Yos

Duncan trans-axle yo-yos include inner and outer axles sometimes used in conjunction with steel roller bearings. The sophisticated design of a trans-axle yoyo is meant to increase the speed of spinning tricks and enhance yo-yo performance. Over time, bearings and axles can wear out or rust, causing the yo-yo to move less smoothly. To maintain the performance of your yo-yo, manufacturers recommend regular lubrication.

Things You'll Need

  • Silicone lubricant or petroleum jelly

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a silicone lubricant or a tube of petroleum jelly. Duncan makes lubricants specifically designed for use with their yo-yos, but lubricants designed for other purposes will also work.

    • 2

Twist the two halves of the yo-yo apart to reveal the inner axle and any ball bearings that may be present.

    • 3

Apply a single drop or squirt of lubricant to the yo-yo's ball bearings. If no bearings are present, apply the lubricant to the inner axle. Wipe away any excess lubricant with a paper towel and wait five minutes for the lubricant to sink in.

    • 4

Twist the two halves of the yo-yo back together and attempt to use it normally. If it still performs slowly or poorly, try lubricating it again with another drop or squirt of lubricant.
