American-Made Toys for Toddlers

Many parents are more comfortable buying toys for their toddlers that have been made in the United States. They think not only that the toys are safer, but they are supporting the national economy as well. Many U.S. toys are made with quality materials, some companies follow strict standards for environmental safety and toy makers are responsible for product safety.

Wooden Toys
- Wild Apples specializes in wooden animal figures and Noah's Ark toys, but also makes puzzles, piggy banks and other wooden toys. The company is in New York and uses hardwoods found in the area in the manufacturing process. The toys are handmade with nontoxic finishes.
  
  Beka, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, crafts larger wooden toys -- easels, puppet theaters and play tables. The company is family-owned and has been crafting children's toys since the 1970s. The products are made from hard maple and the company touts the longevity of the toys and the safety of its products.
Tub Toys
- Bath Boats has been making boats for the tub since 1971. The brightly painted boats are made from wood, which is harvested under Forest Steward standards. The company is located in Minnesota and offers five "proven favorites," as well as custom boats that can be personalized with the recipient's name.
  
  By-The-Hearth is a North Carolina-based company that makes Tub-trax, special colorful play mats that adhere to the bathtub or bathroom wall. There are five styles of Tub-trax available and they can be drawn on again and again with washable crayons. Children can learn the states with a U.S. map, find farm animals, and learn about shapes, colors and numbers.
Soft Toys
- Handmade sock puppets come from the Tigercandy Arts Studio in New York City. Not only are the puppets made in the United States, they also are made from American cotton socks. Tigercandy Arts has a large variety of animal puppets available and also a kit so you can make puppets of your own design.
  
  Twinkle Baby makes a soft Tooth Fairy doll that holds that precious lost tooth until the Tooth Fairy comes. The pocket is perfect for holding other special items when the Tooth Fairy is not visiting. Located in Santa Cruz, California, Twinkle Baby also make soft blankets and bonding dolls.
Outdoor Toys
- American Plastic Toys manufactures 125 items in plants in Michigan and Mississippi, including sand buckets, doll strollers, wagons and toy vehicles. The items are continually safety tested to ensure that they are safe for toddlers. Their toys are stocked in major retail stores that sell toys and by some online toy sellers.
  
  Dirt King has a line of tricycles that are "virtually indestructible." The tricycles are manufactured by MCM Manufacturing Inc. in WaKeeney, Kansas. The trikes have adjustable seats to adapt to growing kids and feature air-filled flotation tires for riding on virtually any surface.
