Changing Batteries in the "DIDJ"
Turn the handheld device face down.
Locate the battery compartments on each side of the DIDJ. One compartment is on the left-hand side of the machine, and the other is on the right-hand side.
Insert a screwdriver into the groove in the center of the battery compartment. Apply pressure by pulling the screwdriver slowly towards the base of the unit. Screws do not hold the unit in place, so you can use a key, a file or another similar tool to remove the cover.
Place two batteries into each battery compartment. Follow the + and - markings inside of the compartment to ensure that you insert the batteries correctly. The flat end of a AA battery is the negative end, while the end with the nub is the positive end.
Snap the battery compartment door back into place.
Changing Batteries in the "Leapster" Handheld
Flip the handheld device so that the back of the unit is facing up.
Remove the battery compartment cover with a flathead screwdriver or a similar object with a flat surface. This reveals a battery tray.
Remove the battery tray by sliding it out of the unit.
Install four AA batteries, reinsert the battery tray, and screw the battery compartment door back into place. The batteries should be facing down when you slide the battery tray back into place.
