How to Make Something With Duplo

Duplo blocks are plastic playing blocks based on the Lego blocks made by the same company. Designed for younger children, Duplo blocks are larger than Legos to prevent choking hazards. Larger blocks are also easier for smaller children to hold and manipulate. Aside from their size, Duplo blocks are functionally and aesthetically identical to Legos.

Instructions

  Lay a building plate on a flat surface. Building plates are large, flat, usually rectangular fields that form the Duplo building base. Duplo starter sets typically include a building plate.

  Take a Duplo block. Notice that the building plate has raised bumps, while the bottom of the Duplo block has indentations. Place the block on the plate so the bumps and indentations interlock. You may notice that the top of the block has raised bumps as well. This design allows you to fit blocks on top of other blocks.

  Place other Duplo blocks next to or on top of the first block you set down to make a building or other construction. Build from the bottom up. Add windows or doors to the construction as you see fit. Windows and doors are included with many Duplo sets.

  Add automobiles, animals and people to the building plate to make a small world. These accessories are included with Duplo play sets or may be purchased separately. All accessories have indentations on the bottom allowing them to lock onto the building base.
