How to Play With Animal Shaped Rubber Bands

Colored, animal shaped rubber bands are one of the trendiest toys of 2011. In addition to animal shapes, manufacturers produce colored rubber bands shaped like current celebrities and comic book characters, as well as generic holiday or genre items. Children find the rubber bands so entertaining that some schools have banned animal-shaped bands, since they distract from classroom learning. Whether or not your school allows animal shaped rubber bands, you can still find several fun uses for them at home or on the playground.

  Stretch a rubber band out to distort it, then release it and watch it return to its original animal shape.

  Collect the rubber bands and trade them with your friends in an attempt to collect a full set of a certain type of animal: prehistoric, sea or pet animals, for example. You can trade them at recess or on the playground, or organize a rubber band trading party.

  Place a rubber band over the top of your thumb and pull it back with your other hand. Point the stretched band toward a target, release your other hand and watch the rubber band go flying. This trick is especially appropriate for bird, insect or pterodactyl shaped bands.

  Take the rubber bands into the tub with you and watch them float in the soapy water.

  Wear the rubber bands around your wrists like bangles to complement your ensemble. This also keeps them safe when you aren't playing with them.
