Things You'll Need
Instructions
Make a knot in one end of the string. Make it tight by creating a small loop and pulling one end of the string through itself. Pull until tight. You shoud make the knot as close to the end of the string as possible. Cut off excess string with your scissors.
Loop the other end of the string around your middle finger. Make a knot in the string in the same as you did in the previous step. The difference is that you are leaving a loop big enough for your middle finger. So after making the loop around your finger, you will make a second much smaller loop and pull the string through itself to form a tight knot. Cut away excess string from the knot. You should know have one end of the string with a knotted end, and the other with a loop end.
Hold the knotted end against the middle of the top using your thumb.
Wrap the free end of the string around the neck groove at the upper part of the top. Allow the rest of the string to hang down across where you are holding the knotted end with your thumb.
Wrap the rest of the string around the bottom of the top. There is a grooved section at the base of the top as well. Starting at the top of the groove, wrap the string around again and again until you reach the bottom of the top. The finger loop will now be hanging free.
Place the finger loop around the middle finger of the hand you want to use to throw.
Throw the top. Aim about four feet in front of you in the direction you want to throw the top. As you throw the top, you will flick your wrist as if you were throwing a flying disc. Simultaneously, release the knotted end you are holding with your thumb. The string will unwrap until it falls completely off the top. The momentum from the throw will cause the top to spin. After the top falls over, rewrap the string and spin it again.
