What Are Speedy Hamster Toys?

Speedy little hamster toys known as, Zhu Zhu Pets, scurry about with minds of their own, delighting children with their hamster-like playfulness. Their need for no cleanup and, minimal care compared to a real hamster, also makes them a favorite for parents. Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters have topped toy lists in past years causing a frenzy during the holiday rush.

Creation
- Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters were the second creation by Cepia.
  
  According to Zhuniverse.com, Zhu Zhu Pets were created by a company called Cepia. The company was founded in 2002 by a group of veteran toy makers, and is based in St. Louis, Missouri. The company's first hit toy was the Glow-E, cuddly bears with color-changing LED lights, reminiscent to glow worms of the past. Their first toy success put on the pressure for another hit, and in 2009, Zhu Zhu pets were born.
Design
- Zhu Zhu Hamsters are available in many colors.
  
  Zhu Zhu pets are speedy little hamster toys for children, originally targeted toward girls. They are about the size of a teddy bear hamster, and come in a variety of colors and patterns, ranging from traditional hamster to yellow or pink. Newer lines also have longer hair and sparkles. The toy hamsters are battery powered and race about on wheels. Pressing various parts of their body will cause the pet to react in a different way, for example, pressing the nose makes the hamster talk. They have several homes that can be purchased separately, and connected to one another to create a larger space. The toy line also features items such as cars, movie theaters, and even a hamster wheel.
Top Toy List
- Zhu Zhu Pets were sold out during the holiday season.
  
  Zhu Zhu Hamster Pets hit the top toy list at Toys "R" Us in 2009, the same year that they were created, and were flying off of the shelves. This left department stores such as Target and Walmart out of stock, while Toys "R" Us increased the price of the toys. The Zhu Zhu pets repeated the same feat in 2010, once again topping toy lists. More recently, Zhu Zhu Pets have been proclaimed one of the all-time top toys by "Time" magazine.
New Editions
- Kung Zhu battle arenas became popular with boys.
  
  Zhu Zhu Hamsters became so popular with young girls, that the toymaker created a new line targeted toward boys. The new Kung Zhu line features ninja- and samurai-styled hamsters in warrior gear, cool enough for any boy to own. These warrior hamsters come in darker colors than their predecessors, and feature habitats that equate to battle arenas, ready for the ultimate Zhu Zhu battle. Zhu Zhu Babies are now available for purchase as well, allowing little girls to create the perfect Zhu Zhu family.
