How to Read on Leap Frog

LeapFrog Reading Systems are both tool and reading resource. Essentially, the device is composed of downloads of audio that correspond to actual books. LeapFrog devices are basically divided into two categories: pre-2008 and after 2008. Pre-2008 devices are called "LeapFrog Pads" and post-2008 the devices were changed so that the pad used to hold the books was phased out for specially designed books that did not need to be clipped by an electronic pad.

Instructions

    • 1

For a pre-2008 LeapFrog, attach the book that comes with the LeapFrog system to the open space on the LeapFrog. The space is about the size of a small children's book and has a clasp to hold the book in place. For post-2008 LeapFrogs, skip this step.

    • 2

Ask the child learning to read on the LeapFrog to read the book out loud. Assure the child that he should try his best but if he gets stuck the LeapFrog will help him.

    • 3

Use the Tag Device that comes with the LeapFrog to touch any word or picture on the book. The LeapFrog device will then pronounce the word or make an accompanying sound. Make sure the child understands the connection between the written words and pronunciation. The child can also use the pen to make sure that he is reading the words correctly when in doubt.

Let the child work independently so he will become accustomed to reading on his own. However, it is important that the child try to read the words before he uses the LeapFrog pen.
