How to Make an Amigurumi Giraffe

Amigurumi animals are Japanese stuffed toys often presented to babies and toddlers. Basic animal designs can be modified and expanded upon to add originality and creativity to the work. Interlacing different shades of yarn, for example, can give the giraffe a vibrant, colorful look. Creating an Amigurumi giraffe may take several hours of continuous work to complete, but the result is a stuffed animal any child will love.

Instructions

    • 1

Crochet the body of the Amigurumi giraffe. The body should be 8 inches long and shaped like a vase. The neck of the "vase" --- or body --- should extend up 6 inches, at approximately 2 inches in diameter. The base of the body should round out at a 4-inch diameter. Use 8-ply acrylic yarn and a crochet hook between 1.25 to 3mm for best results.

    • 2

Push polyfil foam fiber into the body until the body is stuffed.

    • 3

Crochet the head of the giraffe. Use the same 8-ply acrylic yarn and crochet hook as in Step 1. Fill the head with polyfil foam fiber. Use a slip stitch to join the head with the neck of the body.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 to complete the legs, arms, ears and horns of the giraffe.

    • 5

Sew two black buttons onto the face of the giraffe for eyes.
