Bean bags have been used to create toys and household goods for generations. Bean bag fillings have largely evolved from materials such as peas, rice and stones to small plastic beads and other synthetic materials. Bean bags are malleable and lightweight, making them a practical design option for many modern applications.

Bean Bag Chairs
- Bean bag chairs conform to the shape of a person's spine, offering it greater support. Bean bag chairs can be ordered with removable covers made from a variety of materials. Micro fiber is a soft and breathable fabric option, while faux fur offers a plush comfort. Denim is another option especially for houses with children. It is durable and rugged, like blue jeans, so it may stand up to roughhousing better than other materials.
Homemade Bean Bags
- Small, hand-sized bean bags for a bean bag toss or other games are easy to make at home, and require very few materials or skills. Almost any kind of scrap fabric can be used. Simply cut two pieces to the desired size -- 8-by-8-inch pieces work well. Using a sewing machine or sewing by hand, sew up three sides leaving the fourth open. Insert a small handful of sunflower seeds or uncooked beans in the bag. Sew up the fourth side and enjoy.

- Bean bags can be shaped like animals and dolls as well as squares and chairs. Bean bag stuffing is used in a variety of stuffed animals to create small toys. These toys are commonly filled with small pellets made from polyvinylchloride or PVC which is the same material used to make pipes and other construction-grade materials.
