Use the Phillips screwdriver to take out the screw holding the back panel of the Pixter in place. Remove the panel to reveal the battery compartment. Insert four fresh "AA" batteries into the compartment according to the "+" and "-" polarity symbols. When finished, replace the panel and tighten the screw into place.
Use the "Power" switch at the bottom of the device to turn on the Pixter. There are two options for turning on the power: "Volume Hi" and "Volume Lo." Select the option appropriate for where your child will be playing with the device. You can also insert headphones into the jack at the bottom of the screen for private listening. It will take a moment for the device to power on for the first time.
Insert the tip of the attached stylus into the "Calibration" hole that is located on the back of the device above the rear panel. Turn the device so you can see the screen and keep the stylus in the hole for a few seconds until you see a circle with a cross through it appear on the screen. Touch the center of the circle in the upper-left corner with the stylus. Touch the center of the circle in the lower-right corner next. When finished, the device will be calibrated and ready for use by your child.
