Instructions for the Original Creepy Crawler

The Creepy Crawlers toy set, also known as the Thingmaker, was originally introduced by the Mattel company in 1964. It consisted of an oven and metal molds for different creatures you could design by pouring different colored goo into them, and cooking them until they solidified. Since then, numerous expansion molds have been introduced. The oven has also been redesigned and reintroduced a number of times since 1964. However, the original Creepy Crawlers set remains popular among fans of the classic toy.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the Creepy Crawler oven, also known as the Thingmaker. Allow it to warm up for 10 minutes.

    • 2

Snap the Creepy Crawler plastic mold handle onto a Creepy Crawler metal mold. The handle easily slides into a slot on the mold just behind the creature mold chamber.

    • 3

Pour the Creepy Crawler plastigoop into the mold. You can choose one color for the mold or mix a variety of colored plastigoop.

    • 4

Pick up the mold by the plastic handle and place it into the open chamber of the oven.

    • 5

Fill the Creepy Crawler cooling tray with cold tap water up to the waterline marked on the inside of the plastic tray.

    • 6

Remove the mold from the oven using the plastic handle once the plastigoop has finished baking. The color of the plastigoop will darken as it bakes. Once the color of the plastigoop changes completely, then it can be removed.

    • 7

Place the Creepy Crawler mold into the cooling tray so that the sides of the mold are surrounded by cool water. Let the mold sit for several minutes until it cools down. Use the Creepy Crawler prying tool to remove your Creepy Crawlers.
